Kaleidoscopes celebrates Moyo Ogundipe’s artistic achievements from his self-imposed exile in the United States. During this fourteen-year period, Ogundipe’s thoughts constantly turned to his Yorubaland. This led him to engage more with Yoruba art and culture, but he never completely abandoned his early Western training. Instead, he developed a highly distinctive visual language that reflected his complex cultural heritageThe results are balanced synthesis in which these two purportedly disparate worlds complement and enhance one another. Of his process, Ogundipe explains, "In the course of my search I have found that Nigeria and the West are not totally incompatible or mutually exclusive. I have tried to find a synthesis between two seemingly different worlds so that I can weld them into a seamless indivisible whole.” By blending these culture’s traditions in his work Ogundipe indeed forms new kaleidoscopic realities, each of which is more beautiful than the last.
